There is nothing easy about the intervention process. In fact, conducting a drug and alcohol intervention may well be the most difficult thing you ever do. But it will also be the most important. Successful interventions change lives. More to the point, successful interventions very often save lives. The only catch, of course, is that an intervention can only succeed if it’s done the right way.

Remember, addicts are emotionally fragile individuals. If they’re going to be convinced to enter rehab, they need to feel loved and supported. The best intervention is the one that’s conducted in a warm, encouraging environment, without recrimination or reproach. Of course, it can be hard to keep your emotions in check during the course of a crisis intervention…which is why the assistance of professional intervention specialists can be so important to the process. You owe it yourself, and to the addict you care about, to get all the help you need to make your intervention an effective one.
